Patriots Day at Brandywine Battlefield Park (November 27 – 10AM-4PM) Chadds Ford, PA |  Battlefield Park The Battlefield will come alive with military and civilian living historians. Step back in time to a small British outpost and see Redcoats & Royal Artillery encamped during the winter of 1777. Making Scents: The Art and Passion of Fragrance

through November 21
Longwood Garden’s first major exhibition for 2010 is an intersection of flora, fashion and science. This exhibition will transform the Gardens’ gemlike Conservatory into a museum for the senses. Experience the actual plants and flowers behind iconic perfumes, explore the mysterious power of the sense of smell, discover the unique combination of creative artistry and intricate science behind perfume composition, and have the opportunity to compose a basic fragrance at the Make Your Own Fragrance stations located in the Music Room.The exhibition is divided into four major sections. Fall Harvest Market Hand-woven rugs, dried flowers and wreaths, pottery, quilted fabric items and handcrafted dolls are among the wares available from regional artisans in the museum courtyard. Artisans vary from week to week. Hours: Regular hours Admission: Free with museum admission

Reality Check: Contemporary American Trompe l’Oeil Painting The art of trompe l’oeil (a French term meaning “to fool the eye”) is part of a long tradition of illusionism that dates to antiquity. It continues to engage viewers today by inviting them to become immersed in the act of looking. This exhibition- inspired by the Brandywine River Museum’s own collection of 19th and early 20th century American trompe l’oeil painting-will explore the genre in the 21st century through the work of contemporary artists who bring innovative and exciting approaches to the tradition. Over 40 works borrowed from private and public collections will be featured.

Kuerner Farm Tours
The Kuerner Farm was a major source of inspiration to Andrew Wyeth. Since his earliest painting of the farm in 1932 at the age of 15, Wyeth found subjects in its people, animals, buildings and landscapes for nearly 1,000 works of art. Tours are $5 in addition to regular museum admission, free to Brandywine Conservancy members. Tours are approximately one hour long. Children under 6 are not permitted on the tours.

N.C. Wyeth House & StudioTours
Experience not only the environment where Wyeth created many of his memorable works of art, but also the home where he raised his extraordinarily creative children. A National Historic Landmark. Tours are $5 in addition to regular museum admission, free to Brandywine Conservancy members. Tours are approximately one hour long. Children under 6 are not permitted on the tours. Tickets are issued for tours that begin at specific times (10 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 12:45 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.) and must be purchased in person at the Brandywine River Museum Shop.

The Hagley Museum property is a great place to experience the history of the Brandywine Valley, and it is simply one of the most beautiful spots in the area, especially in the spring and summer with the flowers in bloom.

Nineteenth-Century Patent Models: Innovation in Miniature See more than 100 patent models dating to the nineteenth century. The United States Patent Office required applicants to submit a working model of their inventions no bigger than twelve inches square in addition to supporting documents. The exhibit includes patents created by women inventors, transportation-related models, inventions that help with laundry and other household chores, and more.

Hours: 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Admission: Admission $11 for adults, $9 for students and seniors, $4 for children ages 6-14, free for members and children 5 and under.

“Remember Me: du Pont Family Keepsake Portraits” Exhibit in Eleutherian Mills

The exhibit showcases portrait miniatures and other portraits of du Pont family members which have been cherished over the years. Of special interest are portrait miniatures depicting the founder of the DuPont Company, E. I. and his wife Sophie, as well as his brother Victor’s family. This exhibit is on display in the du Pont family ancestral home, Eleutherian Mills. Included in regular admission and tour. Free for members. Use Hagley’s main entrance off of Route 141 in Wilmington, Delaware.More information.

Leonard Baskin: Art from the Gift of Alfred Appel, Jr. In the 1950s, Leonard Baskin (1922-2000) emerged as an important American artist. Placing the human figure at the center of his work, Baskin set himself against the abstraction and formalism that dominated art production and criticism at the time. Prodigiously talented in several media, Baskin explored his interests-artists, birds, tragic literary figures, human suffering-deeply returning to them over many years in drawings, prints, sculptures, and books. This exhibition celebrates 50 works of art generously donated to the Delaware Art Museum by Dr. and Mrs. Alfred Appel, Jr. Hours: On view during regular hours. Admission: Included with general admission. Free on Sundays.

On Assignment: American Illustration 1850 – 1950
Classical literature, romantic best-sellers, cowboy adventures, historical fiction, frothy short stories about high society-all these and many more were the assignment of the working illustrator during a century of profound cultural change. Illustrations captured telling moments of the written narrative, and individual illustrators were often sought out by editors and recognized by readers. More information.

A Belief in the Power of Beauty: A Selection of Works by May Morris Although May Morris (1862 – 1938) was the daughter of William Morris — the founder of the British Arts and Crafts Movement — her stunning landscape watercolors, unique embroidery and hand-made books capture her versatile artistic abilities and individualism. Drawn from the Delaware Art Museum and other public and private collections, the exhibition will present approximately 25 of May Morris’ works, many of which have rarely been on public view. Hours: On view during regular hours. Admission: Free with paid admission on Saturday. Free on Sundays.
