Jamie Wyeth, Rockwell Kent and Monhegan

A small island off the coast of Maine, Monhegan has long lured artists to its remote shores, promising dramatic ocean vistas, rugged landscapes, and inspiring scenes of men struggling against the forces of nature. This exhibition examines the fascination that the island of Monhegan and its people held for both Rockwell Kent (1882-1971) and Jamie Wyeth (b. 1946). Click for more information.

Delaware Art Museum

Delaware Art Museum Through September 15, 2013 French Twist features 100 vintage prints from the golden age of French photography, 1910-1940. The exhibition celebrates the variety and inventiveness of native and immigrant photographers working in France in the early 20th century. The selection encompasses Eugène Atget’s lyrical views of Paris streets and gardens, Man Ray’s surrealist experiments, and Henri Cartier-Bresson’s pioneering photojournalism, as well as works by Ilse Bing, Brassaï, Jacques-Henri Lartigue, André Kertész, and Dora Maar. All works are from the collection of Michael Mattis and Judith Hochberg.

THE SPINTO BAND Wednesday, August 7, 7 – 9 p.m. The band has just competed their third full length album. The recordings were self-produced in their Delaware studio over the course of 2010. In the coming months they are preparing for the release of the album and an accompanying tour.
