Proceeds of this event benefit Delaware Center for Horticulture’s Community Greening Program, which uses horticulture to beautify Delaware and to improve the quality of life for residents in urban neighborhoods. This exhibition explores the importance of maps in everyday lives and material culture. It features selections from Winterthur’s collection of traditional maps on paper as well as map-related objects, such as ceramics, geographic playing cards, and printed handkerchiefs.
April 5-April 26, 2013The New Wilmington Art Association and Winterthur together show what can happen when we dare to mix new artists and old stuff. The project was conceived through a desire among Winterthur staff to both support and build relationships with the burgeoning Wilmington arts community and by the desire of a local arts organization to help emerging artists become more familiar with the many resources the Wilmington area has to offer.

Andrew Wyeth’s “Ides of March:” The Making of a Masterpiece

This exhibition offers a historic opportunity to view Andrew Wyeth’s rarely-seen tempera painting, Ides of March (1974), along with more than 30 of the studies that were instrumental in his development of the composition. Delaware Children’s Museum Monday, April 1- Monday, April 29, children can play and exercise their way through the “DCM Gym” with different stations that will put their strength, agility, and other skills to the test! Exploring the power of their bodies, kids will jump, stretch, tumble, and skip through fun exercises designed just for them. As Earth Day approaches, we’re focusing on sustainability all month long by teaching kids to appreciate nature and “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.” Special programs include using unconventional art supplies in “Recycle Art,” making your own “Water Cycle Bracelets,” creating earth-friendly “Recycled Games,” and planting seeds during “Biome in a Bag.” Get up close and personal with some of Earth’s smallest critters on Saturday and Sunday, April 13 and 14, during this month’s “Try Science: Be an Entomologist.” Kids can peer through a magnifying glass to learn about local insects, metamorphosis, and what makes a bug an insect.
