Kennett Square Mushroom Festival State Street, Kennett Square, PA The Mushroom Festival is an annual event that celebrates the mushroom, in Kennett Square, the “Mushroom Capital of the World”. The town closes down State Street, the main artery through the town and holds a very large block party complete with food, music, antique cars and family fun. In 2001, food tents and vendors are set up along State Street and a bandstand was at the intersection at Rt. 82. We saw a mushroom display across from Harrington’s Coffee Shop, but there was a decided lack of Mushroomness about the festival. Kids activities were set up at the bottom of State Street where we did see clowns and jugglers, a balloon artist and slides and rides including a Mushroom-Go-Round ride. Strolling the three or four blocks of the festival was rather tame street theatre, but parking was easy to find just one block off State Street and admission was free…so who’s complaining.
