The permanent exhibits of the Delaware Museum of Natural History include dioramas illustrating mammals and birds in their natural habitats, as well as showcasing the museum’s internationally famous collection of seashells. Other exhibits provide an introduction to the wildlife of the Brandywine Valley area as well as to many other facets of the natural world. The museum’s Discovery Room is devoted to hands-on activities for children, who can use microscopes or arrange a magnetic habitat mural, or costume themselves as their favorite denizen of the deep for a walk-through tour of a coral reef. The museum also features regularly changing special exhibits, and nature films and special presentations are regularly held in the 300-seat auditorium. Researchers and scholars from around theworld visit frequently to use the museum’s extensive scientific collections, laboratories and library.
Hours of Operation
The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, Sundays from noon to 5 pm. Closed New Year’s Day, July 4, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Admission
There is a charge for admission. Parking is free.
The Museum Store
Open during museum hours, the shop offers educational and entertaining natural history items including books, kits, games and souvenirs for all ages. Also available are nature-related gift items including jewelry, art and decorative objects.
